Our newspaper name..
The final name we have chosen for our newspaper is The Universal Voice because it fits and because it shows what newspapers are about by just reading the name.

Conversation with my group..
In our conversation we discussed what we would call our tabloid newspaper, we came up with many names but narrowed it down to just 5 by the end. We also decided which articles we would write to fill the pages.

5 possible titles for my page and newspaper..
My page:
1. Style at every age!
2. Be fashionable every day
3. Fashion for all ages
4. Styles for you!
5. Fashion for 30+
My favorite one is number 1, because it sounds good, and tells you what the article will be about, and would catch the attention of the readers.
Newspaper:
1. The City Press - Matt chose this
2. The Commuter - We all voted on this one
3. The Forum - I chose this
4. The Universal Voice - Gemma chose this
5. The National Voice - Sarah chose this
We each chose one that we thought was the best to put on this post because we all thought they were equally good and relevant.

Target audience for newspaper
For my newspapaer, my target audience will be mainly from 20 upwards. But my fashion page will be aimed mainly at like people that are slightly younger, than middle aged people.
Thursday, 16 June 2011
Existing newspaper pages which cover the same topic which i am interested in creating..
This one has the main space dominated by a picture of a girl, with bold headlines to draw your attention and the actual pictures are in white circles to draw your attention and make you actually look at what they have to offer. Tabloid's style of writing is for 7 year olds, so this could be another reason for the lack of writing.
This one has a big bold headline stating that 'Shop giant loses faith in Far East' this makes you want to actually read the article to see what they mean and its also dominates a large bit of the page, along with the picture of three girls dressed fashionably.
This one has bright colours to grab your attention and make you want what there is to offer, because they look so nice. Also, they use people that the dress looks really good on so that you think you'll look like that if you wore it. Also the main space is taken up by the pictures of the items.
Newspaper Discussion
As a group we decided that we would each design and write a page, that would go in our newspaper, or two if we finished that early. I would write the fashion bit, Gemma doing the makeup, Sarah doing the Holiday stuff and Matt doing an article on films/ TV programmes. I liked what we are going to write about, because we all know what we want to do, we all decided too choose what we wanted to write about because that seemed like the best way.

The difference between these two, (The Sun being a Tabloid and The Daily Telegraph being a broadsheet) is that The Daily Telegraph is generally great deal more serious than those newspapers that are tabloids. Most tabloids release gossip stories about Celebrities and Football games, whilst the broadsheet shows stories about the Government and things that are more serious. Another difference is that the Sun looks a lot tackier than The Daily telegraph and also uses a lot of different language. Also, again with thee types of stories, there is usually a half naked girl or something informal on the front cover than the broadsheet which would usually have very formal language and headlines about the war in Afganistan or the government.
Different Types of Newspapers
What is Broadsheet?
Broadsheet is the largest of the various newspaper formats and is characterized by long vertical pages (typically 22 inches / 559 millimetres or more). The term derives from types of popular prints usually just of a single sheet, sold on the streets and containing various types of material, from ballads to political satire. The first broadsheet newspaper was the Dutch Courante uyt Italien, Duytslandt, &c. published in 1618.
Other common newspaper formats include the smaller Berliner and tabloid/compact formats.
What is Tabloid?
A tabloid is a newspaper with compact page size smaller than broadsheet. The term "tabloid journalism", which tends to emphasize topics such as sensational crime stories, astrology, and TV and celebrity gossip is commonly associated with tabloid sized newspapers, though some respected newspapers such as The Times are in tabloid format, and in the United Kingdom the size is used by nearly all local newspapers.
The tabloid newspaper format is particularly popular in the United Kingdom, where its page dimensions are roughly 430 × 280 mm (16.9 in × 11.0 in).
Broadsheet newspapers:
Independent on Sunday
The Daily Telegraph
Financial Times
The Guardian
The Observer
The Independent
The Times
Daily Express
Daily Mail

The Sun

Evaluation Questions and Answers..
1. How does your finished product compare to your design?
My design and actual product are very similar, although maybe slightly different. Because in my design i wanted the alien to be wearing a space suit, but the only alien bottle i could use was without clothes, and because of the way it is, it was very difficult to manipulate pictures of clothing to fit the bottle. Also, i wanted the bottle to have a screw on cap but instead its got a pop up one.
2. How has technology (computer, digital camera and computer software) helped you turn your design into a real product?
The computer has helped me to create this advert by providing me with photoshop, which helped me manipulate pictures in my advert, i also used the internet, mainly google, which i was able to collect pictures to feature in my advert. Also, the pictures that we took with the school cameras helped because it gave me an idea of how i could set it out, and how i wanted it to look, in the photos i took pictures of a coca-cola bottle.
3. Do you feel your product is suitable for your target audience?
I feel that my product is suitable for my target audience, because my product is mainly aimed at adolescents and children, and the advert, i think, looks quite fun and interesting? I think that the intended audience would, in fact, like my product.
4. Describe two challenges you have overcome..
2 challenges i overcome:
- One problem i dealt with whilst making my ad, was actually thinking of a slogan that would sound good, and make sense to the advert. I had two options for this, one was to say that 'E.T. - its out of this world.' and another was just to put in the corner 'Other Worldly'. In the end i chose the first one because i thought it sounded quite good and sounded like something you might put in an advert.
- Another problem i had whilst creating the Ad was that i didn't know where to find a picture of an alien to feature in it. At first i got loads of pictures to use but i didn't think i'd be able to manipulate any of those to look like a water bottle, so i had to find a picture of and already made alien bottle so that i could use that and make it look better.
5. Describe the technical skills you have gained..
The technical skills i have gained whilst doing this; I learned how to manipulate pictures on photoshop, how to make an advert on a computer, composition in my advert, making my advert look unbalanced, how to add backgrounds on photoshop and how to create an advert using the internet and photoshop.

My findings..
My findings show that i need to make quite a few changes, such as..
I should call my magazine either 'Extra Terrestrial' or 'Green Glow', but my personal favourite is Extra Terrestrial, because it is more fitting than Green Glow, and i like it more. Also, that i should use either the font 'Pirulen' or 'Mail Ray Stuff' because these are what the majority of people who took my questionnaire voted for. They also all said that they liked the idea of my product and some thought it was quite a good idea.
The only thing i will need to change for my advert is to change the font because people who voted chose differently than i would've. So i think i will change my ideas.

Client Proposal
The technical restriction for my Extra Terrestrial energy drink it can only be a smallish to medium sized bottle, not a jug, and that we can't use chemicals to create the illuminous green colour of the energy drink. The USP of Extra Terrestrial is that its got an alien bottle, illuminous green contents and the curve on the back of the alien so that its easy to hold. i would like the adverts to introduce a brand new product to the public and increase sales, i think the best type of style for my advertising would be too use the print and Tv method. The kind of print advert i would like would to just maybe show space? and maybe make a little story out of it, so the possible buyers of our product would be interested in it. The target audience for this product is anyone, although slightly aimed more at children, teens and people that excersize. The maximum amount of money that we will need for this will be around £55000 and £60000.
My product Details
The name of my product will be 'Extra Terrestrial', it is an illuminous green energy drink that is in a bottle shaped like an alien. The USP of my product is how unique it will be compared to the other drinks, it will stand out, and that the curve on the back of the alien is how you hold the bottle.
What is the ASA?

My magazine isn't directed at a specific age group or gender, it's for any one who is a Harry Potter fan and would find it interesting to read The Quibbler. Although if someone who had never even read or watched Harry Potter, i don't think they would understand that much or find it that interesting. Also, i think my magazine wouldn't be for a specific country because it has been all over the world and almost everyone would have probably heard of it. Maybe my magazine wouoldn't be read as much by older people because they may have other things to do like work and looking after their children, so maybe most people who read it would be around my age (14) to around 25 years.

Explanation of my Moodboards.
On my blog, I have uploaded four different moodboards, one was ‘Celebrities’ I chose this particular one because I thought it would be interesting to maybe use celebrities in my magazine, like a kind of gossip mag, for maybe teens to old aged people. Another one I chose was ‘Hair’ I chose this because I thought it would be fun to do something about hair through the years, for example, if I used this I could maybe put both vintage hairstyles and modern ones, I think this would catch the readers attention if they were looking to do something with their hair. The third one I chose was ‘Vintage Style’, the reason why I decided to make a moodboard on this was because I really like vintage and thought it would be a pretty good idea for a magazine, because it would be more origional, it would also be good for people who wear vintage because they would maybe use it.
The fourth one I made was about ‘Harry Potter’ and this will be the one that I will use, I am choosing this one because I thought it would make a good magazine if it was a really geeky/ nerdy mag made for fans. If this were a real magazine I think it would be good because I think a lot of people who have read the books or watched the films would find this enjoyable.
For my Harry Potter magazine I would maybe need either a dark sort of theme like the orgional writing/theme they use in the films, or it could be called all cheery and have the title as ‘The Quibbler’. I think this would also be good because The Quibbler is a magazine in Harry Potter which is made xenilious lovegood, luna’s dad. I think if it was called the quibbler it would be origional and quirky. Another theme I could use is griffindor or ravenclaws house colours. Griffindor because the issue is about Harry and maybe Ravenclaw because Luna is in that house and her father owns The Quibbler. Also, I think this will be a top of the range magazine because it’s more of a fan thing so there for it would be better if it was quite a classy magazine.

Evaluation of TV Listening Magazines
Most of them have the headings and prices in the place, I think this is bad because they look almost identical and maybe if they didn’t do this it would set them apart from the other magazines, and make them more appealing. In this task we were told us too chose 3 magazines and write what the different parts of it were, for example, main feature, which is the dominating picture which is supposed to catch the readers attention. After we had done this we had to write a evaluation of what we found. I think that generally the cheapest magazines would look tackier with bright clashing colours, and the more expensive ones would usually have less colours and more matching. Also, in my opinion the dearer one looked a lot better, and more appealing. For the cheapest one I think the audience would mostly be families, because they would just want a magazine so that they could see what on the TV and wouldn’t really care whether or not it looked good, and I think the most expensive one ‘Radio times’ would be more for older, or middle aged people who want to read some gossip.
